The Northwest Wine Academy: South Seattle Community College’s Northwest Wine Academy is the first and only program of its kind in the in the Puget Sound region. The program’s classes are designed for students who are just getting a start in the wine industry or professionals who need information on current trends and to enhance their skills. The Academy offers classes in wine making, wine marketing and sales, and food and wine pairing.
McCrea Cellars: McCrea Cellars is Washington State's first winery entirely dedicated to Syrah and to Rhône varietal wines. The Syrahs of Washington are rapidly becoming the signature wine of the State, and the McCrea Syrahs have
laid the foundation for what has become a phenomenon of significant proportion in the Pacific Northwest. In a region never before explored for this family of grapes, winemaker Doug McCrea has dedicated nearly two decades seeking and establishing appropriate vineyard sites that would nurture Syrah and each Rhône varietal according to its individual requirements. Today's wines express the culmination of this effort, made possible only by close relationships between McCrea Cellars and several of the State's finest growers who shared the vision of Syrah and Rhône varietal vines flourishing in Washington.
Cadence
Winery: Cadence Winery of Seattle is owned by husband
and wife Ben Smith and Gaye McNutt. Cadence has received consistently
excellent reviews from the national press, including 92 pts and
“Hot Wine of the Week” for Ciel du Cheval 1999, and
92 pts and “Highly Recommended” for 2000 Tapteil from
the Wine Spectator, 93+ pts and high score of the vintage for Tapteil
2000 from Steve Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar annual
Washington report. Cadence was awarded the 2002 “Artisan Winery
of the Year” from Wine & Spirits Magazine, and was chosen
as one of the top 100 reasons the editors of Food and Wine magazine
love wine.
Fall
Line Winery: Tim Sorenson, winemaker and co-owner of
Fall Line Winery of Seattle, is a professor of economics at Seattle
University by day and a winemaker by night (and on the weekends)
- he is likely the only winemaker in Washington State to have a
PhD from Harvard University!
Nota
Bene Cellars: Tim Narby and Carol Bryant started Nota
Bene Cellars of Seattle in 2001. Their Miscela (Italian for "blend")
is a New World Bordeaux-style blend, consisting of grapes from different
regions throughout Washington State.
Ross Johnson is the Catering Chef of the Brockey
Center of South Seattle Community College. He graduated in 1989
from South Seattle Community College in Culinary Arts, and has worked
at the Columbia Tower Club, the Harbor Club, Anthony’s Home
Port, Salty’s on Alki, The Brooklyn Café, Ruth’s
Chris Steak House and Ray’s Boathouse. He has been the Banquet
Chef at Brockey Center for almost seven years, and has completed the Food and Wine certificate program at SSCC's Northwest
Wine Academy.
