The Seattle Wine Society’s October 2009 program, “An Evening at the Atlantic Street Vintners”, will be held on Wednesday,
October 14, at the Vineyard Table in
SoDo. Because of the timing with harvest
season, this event is going to not only feature
four local wineries and their
winemakers, but also demonstrations of
various aspects of grape processing and
winemaking. The Atlantic Street Vintners
share winery facilities at 85 South Atlantic
Street, across from the southwest corner
of Safeco Field, and adjacent to The Vineyard
Table, a charming space for gathering
of friends and tasting wine, and where most
of the evening’s festivities will take place. As special appreciation to attendees, the Atlantic Street Vintners will be offering wines for purchase at the event at the following discounts: 5% off any single bottle; 10% off any 6 bottles; and 15% off any 12 bottles. What a deal!
Winemaker Jody Elsom of Elsom Cellars
is dedicated to artisan-crafted wines made
from carefully-nurtured grapes, overseen by
growers with proven consistency and pride.
Jody’s passion for wine began in the Napa
Valley and was further explored through
numerous experiences in the vineyards and
wineries throughout Italy and France. Formally
educated as one of the first graduates
from WSU’s extension studies of Enology,
Jody has a passion for developing
wines that best represent the possibilities
for Washington State grapes.
Winemaker (and Atlantic Street’s wine
chemist) Judy Papesh of Falling Rain has
a passion for all things Bordeaux, which is
evident in the styles of wines she produces.
She uses fruit sourced from Washington’s
finest vineyards to craft stylish wines that
celebrate winemaking. Falling Rain wines are blended to accentuate varietal character
while respecting vineyard terroir, and Judy will be on hand sharing both a white Bordeaux
style and a red Bordeaux style with us at the event.
Winemakers Jim and Sylvia Musielewicz of Sodovino have been amateur beer and
winemakers for years, and finally went official in 2008, after getting together with the other
Atlantic Street Vintners. Jim and Sylvia have a preference for Rhone styles, especially
Syrah, the expression of which can be so different all over the world, but the grape does
exceptionally well in Washington State. Jim has recently become very excited about
Viognier, and we’ll get to try both the Viognier and the Syrah at the event.
Stomani Cellars is a family-owned and operated winery, and winemaker Alex Manoni’s
focus is making great Italian-style wines with Washington State fruit. Alex’s all-time favorite
varietal is Sangiovese, which he uses in a 100% bottling, as well as in his signature red
blends. Prior to opening Stomani Cellars, Alex had been an amateur winemaker for many
years, during which time he won numerous medals for wines entered into competitions
throughout the USA. Alex is a Certified Enologist from Washington State University, and is
looking forward to showing off his winemaking techniques!
Two Tartes Catering of Georgetown combines the proven talents of Lori Gilliam and Sue
Benyak, who have been in the food service business for over twenty years combined, and
have run a successful catering company out of West Seattle, Chef du Jour Catering, for a
number of years. Whether they are preparing the cafe’s daily lunch specials and house
made soups or planning an event for 200, they use fresh ingredients and as many local
products as possible. Two Tartes can also be found at various farmers’ markets, hand-
selecting produce for their salads
and soups! We are very
happy to have them join us for
the evening’s program, which is
sure to be delicious!
Grab your glass and come join
us for this warm and friendly
event, complete with delicious
wine and food, where you’ll also
get to learn about (and perhaps
even participate in) winemaking!
Did we mention the easy parking?
Be sure to purchase tickets
