South American Wines - What's Hot?
Wednesday, March 11
Evening Speaker: Marco Orostica
I wonder if Magellan would have lived longer if he had the opportunity to taste the amazing wines coming from South America. He might have never crossed the Pacific had he tasted the Malbec and Carmenere from Chile and Argentina. Now it is getting close to harvest time for the 2009 vintages from Chile, Argentina and Brasil. We will be tasting several vintages and varietals to see what is new from South America.
Our speaker for the evening will be Marco Orostica. Marco was raised in a small town outside of Santiago called Rengo. From his start in the small wine making town, he has traveled the world, learning about wine and food from Iceland to Europe to the finest resturants here in the U.S.
Specially selected food pairings will be created for the evening by chef Mario Fuenzalida, from Lafontana Siciliana ristorante. Known as one of the best Italian resturants in the city, Lafontana and chef Mario bring a love of wine and food to our meeting.
Tickets for this event are available at $30 for members, $40 for guests and non-members. Make your reservations early, as seating is limited and we're expecting a sell-out event.

MARCO OROSTICA I am originally from Chile. I was raised in a small town outside Santiago called Rengo. Rengo is a town rich with fruits, vegetables, and is the producer of one of the best Chilean wines.
I left Chile after one year of college to attend the University of Iceland because I wanted a unique country with a unique language. I have also traveled to Europe and visited many wineries, I have tasted their wines, and I had the opportunity to meet the wine makers of each vineyard.
I came to the USA with the purpose of finishing my college education. I began working in the restaurant business in which I learned lots about wine and fine food. For seven years I worked at probably the best Italian restaurant in the city, La Fontana Siciliana. In which Mario Fuenzalida, the owner, taught me everything about food paring and wine quality. I left the restaurant business to become a fine wine sales representative, and I feel my experiences have prepared me for this wonderful job that I love so much.
