Verticals of South Puget Sound
Wednesday, April 9, 2008
|
Did you know that the Seattle area is home
to award-winning wines, and a highly-renowned culinary and
enologic center? On Wednesday, April 9, we are bringing our
neighbors together with our friends, to enjoy wonderful wines
and food from the South Puget Sound area. The lineup consists
of vertical pairs from four local Seattle wineries, with entrance
wine from E.B. Foote Winery of Burien. Speakers for the evening
include Ben Smith of Cadence, Tim Sorenson of Fall Line Winery,
Tim Narby of Nota Bene Cellars, and Darryn O'Shea of O.S.
Winery. In addition, Chef Ross Johnson of the Brockey Center
at South Seattle Community College is preparing food bites,
specially-prepared to accompany these fabulous wines!
Be sure to bring two wine glasses, in order
to compare the verticals side-by-side. See you on the 9th!

and wife Ben Smith and Gaye McNutt. Cadence has received consistently
excellent reviews from the national press, including 92 pts and
“Hot Wine of the Week” for Ciel du Cheval 1999, and
92 pts and “Highly Recommended” for 2000 Tapteil from
the Wine Spectator, 93+ pts and high score of the vintage for Tapteil
2000 from Steve Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar annual
Washington report. Cadence was awarded the 2002 “Artisan Winery
of the Year” from Wine & Spirits Magazine, and was chosen
as one of the top 100 reasons the editors of Food and Wine magazine
love wine.
E.B.
Foote Winery: Located in Burien, E.B. Foote is celebrating
its 30th Anniversary March 27-30. When it was founded in 1978, there
were only six other wineries in Washington State!
Fall
Line Winery: Tim Sorenson, winemaker and co-owner of
Fall Line Winery of Seattle, is a professor of economics at Seattle
University by day and a winemaker by night (and on the weekends)
- he is likely the only winemaker in Washington State to have a
PhD from Harvard University!
Nota
Bene Cellars: Tim Narby and Carol Bryant started Nota
Bene Cellars of Seattle in 2001. Their Miscela (Italian for "blend")
is a New World Bordeaux-style blend, consisting of grapes from different
regions throughout Washington State.
OS Winery:
Bill Owen and Rob Sullivan started OS Winery of Seattle in 1997.
Their 2006 Riesling rated 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
Ross Johnson is the Catering Chef of the Brockey
Center of South Seattle Community College. He graduated in 1989
from South Seattle Community College in Culinary Arts, and has worked
at the Columbia Tower Club, the Harbor Club, Anthony’s Home
Port, Salty’s on Alki, The Brooklyn Café, Ruth’s
Chris Steak House and Ray’s Boathouse. He has been the Banquet
Chef at Brockey Center for almost five years, and is currently a
student in the Food and Wine certificate program at SSCC's Northwest
Wine Academy.
