When Julie Coen joined the staff at Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door years ago, she fulfilled a dream to combine work with her passion for travel. She caught the travel bug as a high school exchange student in Germany and became a Jane-of-all-trades (photographer, aerobic instructor, designer, and waitress) to finance her many journeys. Her thirst to see the world has taken her from Europe to the Middle East, Africa, India, and Asia. She currently works in the ETBD office in Consulting and as the Special Events Coordinator and occasionally dabbles in photography and writing for the books and website. Exploring Europe has become a family adventure with her tour guide husband and their young daughter.

2006 Suavia Soave Classico, Veneto
The 2005: This is an interesting mineral-driven wine, but there's also lots of lemon flower, white peach and blanched almond character, with a hint of fresh ginger. Medium- to full-bodied, with bright acidity. - Wine Spectator

2006 Broglia Gavi di Gavi "La Meirana", Piemonte
The ripe nectarine fruit of this cortese melds with impressive acidity, which gives the flavors a mineral inflection and a lasting lime pith taste. The middle is soft and round, the finish mouthwatering, for grilled polipetto. - Wine & Spirits magazine

Le Salette Valpolicella Ripasso i Progni, Veneto
Le Salette aims at a rather elegant style in which freshness and fruit are given an importance equal to concentration and alcohol. The 2000 Valpolicella i Progni is a good example of the house style in its medium ruby color, spicy, cherry fruit, and flavors. It is smooth and refreshing on the close, which balances substance and finesse. - Wine & Spirits magazine

2006 Damilano Barbera D'Alba, Piemonte
The 1999 was pure and strapped, with plenty of oak but even more racy blackberry and pepper. The power is on here; cherry, plum skin and currant are wrapped snugly amid tight tannins. Overall it’s lean and inspired, and it would be sensational with meat-filled tortelloni. - Wine Enthusiast

2003 Damilano Barolo "Lecinquevigne", Piemonte
The estate’s 2003 Barolo Lecinquevigne, made from a blend of five vineyards, is a soft, medium-weight Barolo that is a good choice for near-term drinking. Damilano’s 2003 Barolos are made in a soft, accessible style suitable for near or mid-term drinking. - Wine Advocate

2004 Catalici Chianti Classico, Toscana

2004 Rocca Di Frassinello, Toscana
The estate’s top bottling, the 2004 Rocca di Frassinello (60% Sangioveto, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot), is naturally the most concentrated of these offerings. It is soft and plush, showing plenty of ripe dark fruit, chocolate, herbs and toasted oak with excellent length and grip on the finish but only modest overall complexity. - The Wine Advocate

2006 Marenco Brachetto D'Acqui, Piemonte
Sweet with flavors of coffee and Chinese red beans, this has plenty of extract while still feeling light. Chill it slightly for melon and prosciutto. Wine & Spirits magazine
