Program Featuring St. Supery
The October meeting is being on a special date and at a special
place, in order to be able to offer a unique opportunity to
taste the wines of St.
Supery of Napa Valley, California. This event is limited
to 120 attendees, and will consist of seven St. Supery wines,
accompanied by food bites from Alta Broodryk Catering (Alta
provided the food for the South African event earlier this
year). We are also delighted to be holding this tasting event
at the simply amazing Canlis
Glass Gallery. Some of the spectacular work of Jean-Pierre
Canlis will be on display in the gallery, such that the wine
tasting doubles as a private viewing of the artist's work.
Since we know that parking in the vicinity
of Western and Denny can be a real problem, the Society has
rented a nearby parking lot for the exclusive use of the event
attendees.

The St. Supery Story
What's a third-generation French winemaking family doing in the
Napa Valley? Turning out exceptional, hand-crafted, estate wines
made from traditional Bordeaux grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon
and Sauvignon Blanc. The Skalli family started planting grapevines
in the rolling hills of Napa Valley in 1982. In 1986, Robert Skalli
acquired the estate in Rutherford, a renowned area for growing Cabernet
Sauvignon and an ideal site for a Napa Valley winery. The
first grapes were crushed in the new St. Supéry winery during
the 1988 harvest.
St. Supéry first invested in vineyards in
1982 with the acquisition of Dollarhide, a 1,500-acre property in
northeast Napa Valley. The winery has continued to invest in vineyards
since that time, knowing that only through close management of the
grapes in the vineyards can we ensure the highest quality wines
in the bottle. In total, St. Supéry has over 500 planted
acres in Napa Valley. It is in these vineyards, with very diverse
terrains, that St. Supéry wines get their start.
