Joan Wolverton of Salishan Vineyards will be sharing her Pinot Noir along with stories from the very early days of Washington winemaking. She and her husband were some of the first in the state to plant wine grapes back in 1971, when there were only a handful of wineries in the entire state. Now there are over 300! Kay Simon, winemaker and owner of Chinook Wines, is another pioneer who will be joining us. Kay started her career in 1977 as an assistant winemaker at Chateau Ste. Michelle. In 1983 she founded Chinook with her husband, Clay Mackey. She crafts very food-friendly wines that pair well with the cuisine of the Northwest. Joy Andersen is another veteran of the Washington wine industry. After working at other wineries for 10 years, Joy assumed the role of winemaker for Snoqualmie Vineyards in 1991. Much like a master chef, Joys approach begins with choosing the finest ingredients and keeping things simple, yet elegant. Two decades of experience have taught her how to combine the best fruit, yeasts, barrel aging and blending to craft her exceptional wines. Rounding out the panel will be one of the trio of talented women that make Bergevin Lane a top winery. Annette Bergevin is a Walla Walla native with a passion for wine and food. She and Amber Lane founded their winery in 2001, with the able assistance of winemaker Virginie Bourgue. Their focus is on crafting ultra-premium wines using exceptional fruit to showcase the terroir of each vineyard. Food for the evening will be provided by chef Amy McCray of Eva Restaurant and Wine Bar, a casual, relaxed destination restaurant in the Green Lake neighborhood. After working as chef at Chez Shea and sous chef at the Dahlia Lounge, Amy and her husband, James Hondros, opened Eva Restaurant and Wine Bar in 2001. Her menu changes frequently in order to showcase seasonal ingredients and features American, Asian and European cuisines. Amy was named Chef to Watch by Seattle Magazine and in 2001 Eva was voted Best New Restaurant on citysearch.com. It has also been featured in Sunset Magazine. As of press time, the menu was not finalized so watch e-mail teasers for updates. Eva Restaurant and Wine Bar is located at 2227 N. 56th St. (206-633-3538.) This unique program has already generated much interest. Attendance is limited to 200 and we encourage advance reservations (see sidebar). |
