Virtual Travel: ¡ ESPANA !
is going to be at "total experience" tour of Spain. Not
only do we have 23 top end Spanish wines and a full meal served
in courses throughout the evening, we have a stunning program of
first class entertainment.
Classical Spanish Guitarist
Patricio
Contreras is a classical Spanish guitarist who calls Seattle
home. He plays at concerts and wine gatherings all over the Pacific
Northwest and has been featured most recently at the Herbfarm. In
fact, he agreed to come
play a few numbers for us as he is performing at the Herb Farm that
night.
Flamenco Dancer
Ana
Montes is known as one of the West Coast's foremost female flamenco
dancers. Her flamenco studies started in Sevilla where she studied
under Angelita Vargas and José Galván. She danced
professionally in Spain, Europe and Mexico for 7 years, including
the Ballet Español del Camborio, the Ballet Español
de Fernando Romero in Madrid, and at El Burrero Peña Flamenca
in Madrid. She has been acclaimed as brilliant and charismatic,
moving with grace and elegance, especially the upper torso, arms
and hands which so defines the female flamenco dancer, yet at the
same time containing that tension and passion which makes flamenco
so exciting. Ana currently teaches and produces student shows out
of her studio Flamenco
Danzarte in downtown Seattle.
Classical Singer
Rosa
Duarte is a young, talented soprano and a rising star in
Spanish classical singing. Rosa is a native
of Spain, where she studied at the Conservatory of Guadalajara,
worked with several opera companies, and performed throughout Spain
and Europe with the chamber music Sebastian Duron. Among her most
recent performances have been Spanish Latin America concerts at
the Convention Center (downtown Seattle) and at the University of
Washington sponsored by the Center for Spanish Studies, the Division
of Spanish and Portuguese studies, and the Education Office of the
Embassy of Spain.
Concert Pianist
Steve Metzler, who was trained
as a concert pianist, is today the president
of Classical Grands, the Northwest distributor of Bluethner, Foerster,
and
Estonia Old World grand pianos. He studied piano at the University
of
Washington School of Music and he has played in concert with the
Seattle
Symphony (as a Brechemin Scholarship winner), the Bellevue Philharmonic
and the UW Orchestra. He'll be performing Beethoven's Concerto in
C Major at the Bürklin-Wolf Festival in Germany this summer.
Steve is also president of Classical
Wines, importer of the wines for Virtual Travel: ¡
ESPANA !. Spain became the focus of Stephen's life when he met
and married Almudena de Llaguno, who formerly worked for the Spanish
Consulate. Almudena is very connected to the Spanish community in
Seattle and she gave us many of the leads which resulted the spectacular
array of talent we will be presenting at Virtual Travel: ¡
ESPANA !
Thanks for Helping
In addition, we are very grateful for
the generous support of the Spanish
Embassy and the commercial offices of Foods
From Spain in New York. They have provided maps and information
on the Spanish wine growing regions, posters and flags, and the
pennants which will gracefully decorate the hall at Hollywood Schoolhouse
for this special Enological Society event.
